The Village Justice is elected for a four-year term. The Associate Village Justice is an appointed position. They are assisted by the Justice Court Clerk, Sally Capellan, Associate Justice Court Clerk, Jeany Lopez and Associate Justice Court Clerk, Jennifer Tenelema. The Justice Court has a general jurisdiction over criminal, civil and vehicle/traffic within the Village.
Civil jurisdiction is limited to matters up to $3,000. Jurisdiction is based upon the Plaintiff or Defendant living, working, or maintaining a place of business in the Village of Haverstraw and the other party may be served in the County of Rockland.
There is a Civil/Small Claims part of the Court with jurisdiction up to $3,000.00. However, jurisdiction is based upon the Defendant living, working or maintaining a place of business in the Village of Haverstraw. To file a claim complete the Civil/Small Claims Application print, sign and return to Justice Court.
